Technical Advisor, Climate Change
Kate FEHLENBERG is an international development professional with over twenty years’ experience in over a dozen countries, largely in East Africa and southeast Asia. Trained in environmental science, civil engineering and public health, her career spans ecosystem protection and community-led watershed management for the US government to the Jane Goodall Institute, a decade of RMNCH and Gender equity work, and climate-smart agriculture. Most recently, she led a large Feed the Future program in Africa focused on scaling agricultural innovations to smallholder farmers through private sector engagement and modernizing regulations. Throughout her career, she has led teams in the design and implementation of strategic plans; M&E frameworks and program evaluations; and public-private partnerships; and community grant programs. A specialist in Scaling innovations, she has been at the forefront of thought leadership on the science and field implementation of Scaling, designing conceptual frameworks, research methods and practical tools for sustainable systems-level change since 2012. Her employers span the US government, global research institutes, international and local development agencies, and the private sector. She holds advanced degrees in Environmental and Marine Science from Samford University; Civil Engineering and GIS from Georgia Tech; and Population and Family health and Complex Emergencies from Columbia University, and speaks various languages. She currently serves as a Climate Change Technical Advisor for FHI360 in the US.
