Secretary of the Board and Climate Change Focal Point
I am the Secretary of the Board and Climate Change focal point in Suswatch Kenya, involved in a whole range of activities - interacting with youth, women and communities on a variety of climate-related matters. I also convene/chair the Road to COP (Conference of the Parties) in the Kenya Climate Change Working Group (KCCWG).
I was a member of the We Have Faith "In Pursuit for Climate Justice" COP17 campaign organising committee providing technical support and travelled with the team in 6 trucks from Nairobi to Durban, camping all the way. I got our caravan to be carbon neutral.
I was part of Kenya's Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MENR) gazetted taskforce on the Climate Change Policy and Bill which was enacted into law on May 6, 2016, now referred to as the Climate Change Act 2016.
I follow the capacity building and action for climate empowerment (ACE) or article 6 of the UNFCCC in the climate negotiations as a negotiator on behalf of Kenya.
I have written, published and edited articles on climate change, youth and grassroots’ engagement. Using the lens of my economics and international studies educational background and as a Buddhist practitioner in the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) I consider people a key component in tackling climate change. The motto “Rauka ama Hatuta survive -> Wake up or we won’t survive” is my personal engraved philosophy to convey to everyone that they all have a role to play in this discourse.
