Response to impacts of glacial retreats

The project will support five pilot activities in Peru in response to the impacts of the rapid glacial retreat of the tropical Andes. Glacial melt and retreat pose significant threats to water supplies for both farming and for towns, including big cities, on which the rural economies depend. The pilot initiatives cover rangeland management; agro-forestry; reforestation; irrigation systems; and livelihood alternatives. These activities will contribute to strengthening the resilience of local ecosystems and economies to the impacts of glacier retreat in the Tropical Andes.
