PIEVC Practitioners’ Network Resources
The Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) was created in August 2005 to conduct an engineering assessment of the vulnerability of Canada’s public infrastructure to the impacts of climate change. Between August 2005 and June 2012 the committee’s activities were co-funded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Engineers Canada. As of March, 2020, operations of the PIEVC Protocol and PIEVC Program have been assumed by the PIEVC Program Alliance, consisting of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR), the Climate Risk Institute (CRI) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Since 2008, the Protocol has been applied to assess climate risks and vulnerabilities across a wide range of infrastructure systems in Canada including. With the assistance of Canadian infrastructure experts, the Protocol and related documents have also been applied in Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, Vietnam, and the countries of the Nile Basin. To facilitate international application, the Protocol and supporting documents have been translated into Spanish, Vietnamese and Portuguese. Some of these documents are provided below.

New Frontiers Podcast: Project Management for a Changing Climate

The CVFM tool shows the historical and projected trends for climate indicators identified to be most related to climate events that impact forest operations. The tool graphically highlights differences in climate indicators between regions, lists which climate indicators are linked to forest operations activities, and provides examples of adaptive changes to forest operations.
