Programme Manager
Dosteus Lopa is Programme Manager for CARE International in Tanzania, currently managing the Equitable Payments for Watershed Services (EPWS) program, a partnership between CARE and WWF Tanzania with support from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). This is PES program being implemented in the Uluguru Mountains, a high-biodiversity section of the Eastern Arc Mountain Range. Working for this PES programme for over six (6) years, Mr. Lopa has become one of the champions of the concept of payment for ecosystem services (PES) in Tanzania, and East and Southern Africa. I also coordinate climate change programmes which look into Where the Rain Falls and Community-Based Adaptation in semi arid areas of Tanzania along Pangani Basin. His experience includes project management for CARE Tanzania, consultancy work for the Environmental Resource Consultancy, and researches with University of Dar es Salaam and international agencies on natural resources management throughout Tanzania and East Africa since 1998. His primary expertise is in social sciences and natural resource management, specializing in links between environmental conservation and livelihood improvements including rural livelihood strategies, and pro-poor approaches to promoting sustainable natural resources management. He holds an MA in Geography and Environmental Management and a BA in Land Use Planning and Environmental Studies from the University of Dar es Salaam.
